RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (POSTDOC)

The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences as soon as possible.
This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The initial fixed term is three years. The contract provides for a maximum extension of up to three years depending on the associate’s achievements during the first stage. Providing that a position is available and that requirements have been fulfilled, the associate may apply for temporary civil servant status in accordance with Section 28 subsection 2 HmbHG. The position is full-time and comprises 39 hours per week (40 for civil servants).
Duties include teaching and research in the respective department or institute. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications as well as acquire teaching experience. These duties are intended to promote academic achievement. Therefore, at least one-third of set working hours will be made available for the associate’s own academic work.
You will be member of the joined chairs of Capital Markets and Management (Prof. Bassen) and Financial Accounting, Auditing and Sustainability (Prof. Lopatta). Both chairs are member of the Research Group on Sustainable Finance which consists of four professors and their teams of postdocs and PhDs. We are part of several international cooperations with leading universities (e.g. Dublin, Hong Kong, Oxford, Peking, Syracuse, Sydney, Zurich), global companies and NGOs. We are as well member of the cluster of excellence funded by the German Government. Your area of responsibility includes the preparation of empirical-quantitative research papers in the areas of finance or accounting and the active participation in international conferences. The teaching duty is five weekly hours per semester in the area of finance and accounting.
A university degree in a relevant subject plus doctorate. Ideally, we expect a university degree in business administration, economics, mathematics or physics or related fields as well as a PhD in finance, accounting or economics.
Further qualifications include:
- Knowledge in finance, accounting and / or sustainability
- Experience in dealing with databases
- Knowledge in statistical programs such as SPSS, STATA or R
- Excellent English language skills (spoken and written)
- Experiences in the development of empirical studies from the PhD, ideally to topics of the Research Group and in English;
- Teaching skills at a university
