Responsibilities

Administration

  • Articulates long-term direction and vision for the dietetic internship program in accord with the department’s mission
  • Oversees short- and long-term planning, implementation and evaluation of the DI program
  • Assures quality and currency of the DI curriculum
  • Leads recruitment efforts for students
  • Maintains program compliance to ACEND accreditation standards
  • Advocates for the department and profession
  • Represents the department at the college, university and community level
  • Adheres to highest standards of professional and personal ethics
  • Communicates effectively in both written and oral form
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares reports for accreditation
  • Plans and conducts advisory committee meetings for the DI

 Teaching

  • Actively participates in curriculum and course development, implementation and evaluation
  • Delivers current, evidence-based curriculum to students
  • Applies a variety of teaching strategies, including innovative approaches and best practices, to address various student learning styles
  • Effectively evaluates student performance (provides timely feedback, addresses weaknesses, develops appropriate remediation for student success)

Scholarship

  • Remains current in academic or professional discipline
  • Engages in the discovery, synthesis, integration and/or application of new knowledge (e.g. – publications in peer-reviewed journals or books; presentations at professional meetings;published articles in non-academic publications; technical assistance; consulting; researches, implements and documents the effectiveness of new teaching strategies; etc.)

Service

  • Actively participates on college and/or university committees and/or completes special assignments
  • Engages in service activities that relate to the faculty member’s discipline and unique professional expertise (e.g. – service to professional societies/organizations)
  • Contributes to the advancement of the department, college and/or the university as a whole
  • Effectively mentors students and/or junior faculty

May perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current, emerging, and future trends in dietetics and nutrition
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working effectively with preceptors throughout the state as well as other faculty and staff in the college and university
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.S. in clinical nutrition
  • Credentialed by the Commission on Dietetics and Nutrition as a RD/RDN
  • Licensed by the Arkansas Dietetics Licensing Board for dietetics practice
  • 7 years professional experience as a RD/RDN
  • Documented record of precepting dietetic interns, course instruction, and administrative/management achievement in nutrition and dietetics education

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree in nutrition, or closely related area and 3 years professional experience as a RD/RDN
  • Documented record of precepting dietetic interns and course instruction
  • Demonstrated achievement in scholarly activity
